Topco Scientific Makes Semiconductor Fabs Greener with Perfluorinated Filter Regeneration

Topco Scientific (TWSE: 5434), the industry leader in integrated services of semiconductor and optoelectronic materials, will present “Regeneration of Perfluorinated Filters: Opening a Green Window for the Semiconductor Supply Chain” at TechXPOT during 2024 SEMICON Taiwan on September 5th. The technology reduces cost, lead time and resource consumption of filters through recycling, paving the way for green transformation in semiconductor manufacturing processes.
Perfluorinated filters are widely used in semiconductor, panel and various industrial processes. Fluorine materials, with excellent chemical resistance, flow rate, descaling ability and particle filtration performance, have significant impacts on process yields. Since the semiconductor industry demands high material purity, only a few manufacturers can produce fluorine material filters that meet the industry standards. As the semiconductor manufacturing processes advance to nanoscale, even fewer manufacturers can produce qualified nanoscale filters, resulting in high prices and long lead time. In addition, fluorine materials cannot be decomposed naturally by the environment. The semiconductor industry scraps tens of thousands of perfluorinated filters every year, imposing enormous pressure on the environment and indirectly leading to global warming.
To reduce wastes and resolve supply chain challenges for clients, Topco Scientific, in partnership with Ever Pure Applied Materials Co., Ltd. (EPAM), has introduced perfluorinated filter regeneration technology. Used perfluorinated filters that were supposed to be scrapped are now regenerated by removing particles, organic matters, heavy metals and other pollutants trapped inside, and restored to their original values equivalent to new filters just before delivery. The regenerated filters have been tested by a third-party laboratory to confirm their heavy metal purity, and factory acceptance test to ensure pressure drop and cleanliness. The regenerated filters, with proven filtration efficiency and extended lifespan, help clients reduce costs, shorten lead times, and minimize waste, fostering a multi-win circular economy model.

“This perfluorinated filter regeneration technology effectively restores pressure loss and filtration efficiency of filters that would otherwise be discarded back to their original values just like new ones. In addition to saving filter cost by about 30% to 50% for clients, each capsule perfluorinated filter can reduce approximately 41 kilograms of carbon dioxide equivalent. The green technology of perfluorinated filter regeneration has been successfully validated by several wafer fabs, with customers recognizing the restored filtration efficiency and lifespan.
